Mizoram lies between 21.58o to 24.35o North Latitudes and 92.15o to 93.29o East Longitudes. The land area of Mizoram is 21,087 sql km.
Mizoram, formerly known as the 'Lushai Hills', was one of the Districts of the State of Assam. It was accorded the status of a Union Territory in 1972 and the later became a full-fledged State in 1987. The State shares national border with Tripura, Assam and Manipur. It also shares 404 kms long international boundary on the east with Myanmar and 316 kms of its border on the west with Bangladesh.
The Mizos are peace-loving and friendly. They are literate, forward-looking and are politically conscious.
The Mizo society is well-knitted and homogeneous in culture, language and faith. These traits lend strength to the community and add communality to their approaches to development and other social activities.
