Historian believe that the Mizos started
migrating from China to Western Burma around the seventh century and continued
to do so for ten centuries. After settling down on the hills of Mizoram, they
came under the influence of the British Missionaries in the 19th
Century. They adopted Christianity which led to spread of education. The
Christian Missionaries introduces the Roman script for the Mizo language and for
formal education. The cumulative result is high percentage of literacy 88.49%
which is considered to be second highest in India.
The Mizos are peace-loving and friendly.
They are literate, forward-looking and are politically conscious.
The Mizo society is well-knitted and homogeneous in culture, language and faith. These traits lend strength to the community and add commonality to their approaches to development and other social activities.
