The economy of Mizoram had a setback during two decade long insurgency from 1966-1986. This chapter of insurgency finally came to a close with the signing of the Memorandum of Settlement on June 30, 1986 between the Mizo National Front and the Government of India.  The era of violence was replaced by peace and harmony.

Today, Mizoram is justifiably the most peaceful state kin India.  Mizoram has now found new aspirations of achieving self-sufficiency in food productions, of mobilizing its internal sources of revenue and tapping its natural resources and thereby making Mizoram one of the most prosperous states in India.  The Mizo society is close-knit and homogeneous in terms of religion, culture and language.  The people are hardworking, dynamic and enterprising.

With the determination of the people and their enterprising attitude, blessed by peaceful situation, Mizoram is all set to take long strides toward development
